CHARACTER INFORMATION

Name: Sun Huashi
Age: Over 500 going on puberty (vaguely equivalent to 12/13, perhaps)
Canon: AU of Journey to the West
Canon point: At the beginning of the journey, after she's been rescued, both Bajie and Wujing (as well as the horse-that's-really-a-dragon) have joined the party.

History:Huashi was born before her father, then still simply known as the "handsome monkey king" left to find immortality; besides his own innate fear of death, this tiny creature he'd spawned probably helped cement the need to find some way to make himself and those he held close immortal.
Probably due to this, and the fact that her father is anything but a normal monkey, Huashi has grown slowly physically, but in other ways, she's pretty much like any little girl.
Between the time Wukong was gone training (and erasing his name from the book of the dead), she mostly spent time with the female monkey she called "mother", and exploring all that she could of the Mountain of Fruit and Flowers. When Wukong's extended abscence led to the locals demons acting up, Huashi was quite fearless in attacking them when they harrassed the monkeys... Luckily she had others looking out of her, because even little monkeys who has a magical stone monkey for a father cannot defend themselves forever against those bigger and with more martial knowledge than they.

When Wukong finally came back home and set things right again, he was of course quite proud (after being scared shitless) that his daughter was so fearless; he started to teach her to fight with a staff, and also a few other things of what he knew.
Then, of course, Heaven happened, and at the last battle at the Mountain, Wukong had her quite securely (supposedly) locked into the Water Curtain Cave during the battle... this didn't stop Huashi from managing to get out in time to see her daddy defeated by Erlen Shang, his dog, and a few other people. Only the Goddess of Mercy managed to stop Huashi from leaving the Mountain in pursuit of her father, with the promise that she'd do her best to see that he was fairly treated. Later, Guan Yin would also put a spell on the girl, so she would sleep for long periods of time during Wukong's inprisonment.

When Xuanzang got his mission of retrieving the scriptures, and Wukong was chosen as one of the bodyguards/disciples, all the divinities of Heaven were quite aware Wukong would probably (and vehemently, if not violently) decline. Guan Yin produced the enchanted circlet, and hoped it would win favour; Erlen Shang, however, who knew of Huashi, didn't think the circlet would be enough, and suggested more... incentive.
What happened next laid down Huashi's lasting fear or dogs, as Erlen Shang got quite upset when what he thought was a simple fetch quest of a tiny girl, turned into a clawing and biting menace. Huashi got away at first, but Erlen Shang saw no reason to debase himself by running after a monkey and sent his dogs after her. When Erlen Shang caught up, one dog was dead, the other had her quite firmly... Huashi ended up with some rather serious wounds on her back, which, despite Guan Yin's gentle hands later, would end up scarring.

Of course, while Xuanzang would protest later that their journey wasn't a place fit for a little girl, he was no less insistent in rescuing Wukong's daughter from Shang's palace when he and Wukong were informed of what had happened. After that, it would take "too long" to turn back to deposit the girl at home (and she was hardly inclined to stay there, finally being reunited with her father), and she "simply had to" come with them. Xuanzang has regretted this decision ever since.

Personality:

Huashi is a cheerful, curious young (monkey) girl who would rather try something, than have it explained to her. First after failure (which is usually taken surprisingly well) is she willing to listen... if she respects the person doing the teaching. Otherwise, she's apt to ignore the advice given, until and if she's failed again; only at this point is the advice adhered to. Huashi holds little fear, even where it would probably be warranted, except when it comes to bearded "old" men and dogs, due to certain events rather recently.
As father, such daughter; Huashi seldom pays 'proper' respect to those older, with more status, or those who could otherwise be seen as her "betters"; the only exception is the Goddess of Mercy, her father, and anyone who shows (what she sees as) respect to her.

Huashi loves to explore, and, lately, also to travel; there's so much to see, plus she loves all the different landscapes there is to see. Unfortunately, she seems to be of the idea that nothing in nature can hurt her (people/demons/gods, yes, but nature/animals? no), which is just building up to either a catastrophe, or perhaps her turning into a trainer of (dangerous) animals, who knows.
She likes to be helpful to those she likes or trusts, and if they're really close, she will not hesitate to throw herself into potential harm; not an excellent feature to have when one is still a child, if a remarkable one.

Sample:

Huashi was balancing precariously at the front of the saddle, splayed out along the strong neck and whispering into a long, slender ear when she's grabbed by the collar and jerked back, then hung out into empty air.

"Control your child, Wukong!" Xuanzang snapped and shook Huashi where he held her out, showing impressive strength for someone who looked so slender.

"Hey, hey! I was having a *conversation*!" Huashi cried out, waving her arms in protest, grinning at her father as he took her from Xuanzang. The monk gave her a narrow stare as she clambered around daddy's back, hung for a moment with her arms aound his neck, and then settled on his shoulders.

"What, with my horse?" There was a faint mocking note in Xuanzang's voice, a tone familiar to all children facing an adult who just got proof that children are indeed foolish. Huashi narrowed her own eyes and was about to blurt out the truth when the white horse stamped the ground and tossed his head heavenwards for a moment.

Huashi snapped her mouth closed. Right, the Goddess had said no one was supposed to know... Then she grinned smugly, and tried not to burst out into giggles as that made all the muscles in Xuanzang's throat work as he attempted to find equilibrium.

"Yes, I was!" It was almost a game; the monk tried to find ways to make her be quiet, and Huashi almost always managed to make him even more flustered. Most games were fun. Shaking her head, Huashi expelled the memory and stared at the milling people, the flat... whatever it was where that person had been speaking, and didn't like this game.

Had she done something wrong? Like daddy, so she was being punished? But there would probably not be other people here, then... Had she been kidnapped again? No... that couldn't be it. She remembered falling asleep quite securely in the camp they'd made in a grove of bamboo last night. No one would have managed to get past, and anyway, they'd surely have gone for Xuanzang first. They always did. So why was she here? And where was her father?
